I think it's excellent, very transparent, which is what you want in your government.
I think we forget that Bush, like presidents before him, has given a weekly radio address to the nation for almost 8 years now. Technically, Obama's not doing anything different, but by FILMING the speech and posting it to the INTERNET, it just makes me think that Obama is totes hip!
Did you listen to the address? I did. But if it was only played on NPR, I most likely wouldn't have had to opportunity to catch it.
I'm with you Matt. I thought "is it necessary for Bush to give an address each week that no one listens to". Well now with the Youtube address you can watch it online, whenever is most convenient for you. Also any formal meetings the transition team has is being broadcast live on his change.gov website. And they also require that the party that's meeting with them provide all documentation before hand so it can be posted on the website along with the video conference. And from what I read he's going to carry this practice over into the White House as well. I'm loving this level of transparency!
And not only is it transparency, and modernity, but it's intelligence. The plans he laid out on the address were fantastic. And then announcing General Shensiki as his Secretary of Veterans affairs today was another great move. The symbolisim of nominating the highest ranking asian-american to ever serve in the armed forces, on Pearl Harbor Day is pretty moving. Shenseki is the same guy that got canned by Rumsfield for saying that we were going to need hundreds of thousands of troops for the Iraq war to be sucessful. Rummy said he was "Wildly innacurate". Looks like Rummy was highly full of shit.
The transparency I guess is going to be somewhat inevitable given the the level at which the media, people, and technology work together these days.
I feel like I've heard about the weekly radio address...I just thought it was weird that he was giving an address pre-term. It's cool and interesting...I hope the change runs deeper.
