i always like to start the ol' what-if-he-hadn't-had-killed-himself convo, only to be cut short by the very same conclusion, . . . he would have then, killed himself.

I agree with you, Nat. But to postulate if he hadn't committed suicide... Nirvana would have broken up, Kurt would have divorced Courtney. Kurt would release more acoustic albums a la Neil Young. Probably would have collaborated with other artists more (REM, Sonic Youth).
In 2011 - After a successful Nirvana reunion tour (with the recently reunited Pixies as the opening act), Kurt pledges to hang up music to focus more on his art... Then he kills himself.
