He's got a new record comin' out, produced by T-Bone (who gave him gold magic back with Bringing Down the Horse) and featuring Neko Case & Kelly Hogan.
Not sure if anyone dug into his last record... which I'll admit I was anxiously awaiting. It was ... eh, very solid, but hasn't warranted repeat listens.
Anyway, if you have some time, surf around and read some interviews or watch some videos with him talking about his new record, Woman & Country, which by the way has a very "of the times" album cover photo - straight out of Anthropologie Catalog. It's cool to hear him talk about the record and recording. I was tellin' Emily how, here's a guy who is completely marketable from a record company standpoint, he's has history on his side, looks great, has already sold millions of albums, writes solid material, has a unique voice and yet there's something... eh. Read about him talking about his album, very well spoken. There are some videos on his myspace page Blog section.
"My thing is I just care about how things sound. I don't care about what cable goes between that and that. I can tell when things are going through a computer, my ears are already telling me that I prefer it not to. I just want it to sound good. T-Bone gives me that opportunity, he and his engineers, like Mike Piersante, have already sorted through all that kind of stuff. So, I don't think I wanted to make a record that sounded, by any stretch, "old-fashioned," I'm not interested in that at all. I really just hoped that it would sound great today. Would it have sounded great twenty, fifty years ago? I hope it sounds good fifty years from now, and I don't think it's any secret that a lot of stuff you're hearing right now won't sound good in even five years."

Hear the new album at the link above. I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying it so far.
I wish I had a pet bald eagle.
I think the eagle is real. They can be trained. And yes, Jakob's last album was pretty boring...
It was good, but kinda boring. What is it... seems like they're solid songs, doesn't really give off that sense of urgency to me.
