Public Enemies
So I've long been a fan of Michael Mann's work ever since Miami Vice became my favorite show of all time. He's done the underworld of southern law enforcement, a taxi ride with Tom Cruise, and now he's setting his sight on Great Depression era criminals. Depp as Dillinger, Bale as J Edgar Hoover's hand picked FBI agent hunting him down, and tommyguns out the ass. Other than Inglorious Bastards this is probably the movie I'm looking forward to the most this year.

This looks cool. Mann uses that "Cops" home video tone...which was awesome in Collateral.
He's such a master behind the lens. He has a way with creating these very stylized moods that reflect the times they represent. One only need see the shot of Crockett and Tubbs cruising in the drop top Ferrari through the night streets of Miami while "In The Air Tonight" plays to get an idea of this.
And I'm with you on the "Cops" home video tone. He used digital cameras to film the scenes at night stating that it apparently gave him more depth of field and contrasts in blacks. It's also the same technique he used for the night scenes in the Miami Vice movie. That's how he gets that look.
