The Pres Just Crossed the Line

So you know how in life there are various lines that you aren't supposed to cross...well Commandante George Bush just leapfrogged that line. At a speech in Jerusalem in front of their Parliament, the day after their 60th anniversary, President Bush just said "Some seem to believe we should negotiate with the terrorist and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American Senator declared: 'Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.' We have an obligation to call this what it is — the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."

Our President has gone from being a failure, to being a disappointment, to now being a disgrace. To go to Israel, in their capital, in front of their elected leaders, and accuse Barack Obama of wanting to "appease" Iran and then to invoke the memory of the holocaust. This from the man who is responsible for the biggest foreign policy blunder in a generation? This from the man whose own defense secretary stated in the Washington Post today that he wants to sit down and negotiate with Iran? This from the man who said recently that as a sacrifice to the soldiers he gave up playing golf?

I wouldn't say that this latest statement is the one that pushed him into disgrace territory -- he's been there for quite a while. Having said that, you can't really disagree with what Bush is actually saying. Even Harrison Ford in Air Force One refused to negotiate with terrorists.

Right, but Bush wasn't talking specifically about Barack Obama. His comment was directed at people like Jimmy Carter who DID meet with Hamas.

Not that chatting up the people in Iran who call for the complete destruction of Israel, think the Holocaust was a lie and provide arms to Iraqi insurgents is MUCH better, but at least it's a step in the right direction! Party unity!

Nah,,,I think it's a direct shot. John McCain thought so as well because he defended Bush's statement. Biden, Pelosi, Emanuel, and Dean thought it was a shot. Hell, even chief Hillary supporter Paul Begala thought so, hence his recent posting on the Huffingtonpost.

But as for the merits of whether we should talk to them or not, I really think it's the way to go. Worked for Nixon with China and Regan with the Soviet Union. Try diplomacy, have talks, but when all else fails bring down the hammer.

Touche' on the party unity. Time to start rallying the troops and preparing for the fall. I feel a 1980 style sweep coming on.

Well, Barack disagrees:

"I'm less concerned about whether the remarks were being directed against me personally, because frankly there is no evidence out there that I've ever suggested that we should engage terrorists. So obviously, it didn't apply to me."

I love Barak Obama. I've been disconnected in Maine the past few days, has he won the nomination yet?
