March 13, 2008

I would like to invite you New Yorkers to a night of music. Thursday, March 13 I will be playing at Banjo Jim's. This show will coincidentally be the first week I am in NY, the first time I've played at Banjo Jim's, and only the 3rd time I've played the city. It would do me great pleasure and inspiration, as well as making a great impression, if you could come, enjoy yourself, bring friends and pick up my first official full length recording. I will be going on around 1130 and playing for an hour or so.

I'll probably have to take a nap before the show, but I'll be there!

To liven this post up a bit, I'm going to ask Jay some interview questions:
1. Who will you be playing with on the 13th?
2. Will you be playing solo or with any band members?
3. Is there an after party after the show? Let me know if I should take off work on Friday.
4. Will you be playing any good cover songs?
5. What are you looking forward to most (besides Emily) about NYC?

Of course, I'm anxiously awaiting your arrival. It'll be good to see you, buddy.

I did not know American music was so dead...

The other bands are of nominal importance, they set up shows with bands that aren't necessarily familiar with each other, so patrons come to see who they came to see mostly...however, The Bowmans are doing a set just before me. They are young, plainly beautiful, twin-harmonizing folkies. They got me the show, as I've hosted them in Richmond. They go on at 930

I'll be joined by a friend of mine, Charlie Glenn, on piano and guitar. He did some recording with me and he's the best musician I've ever played with. And I'll be doing a few songs with Emily, the lovely voice. No parties afterward and No need to gear up for a big evening, it'll be low key, very Cool, and highly original, as Banjo Jims is a listening room that hosts mostly Americana-type acts. None of you guys have seen me perform material for at least a year, I'm intrigued and hope you are too.

In NYC, I'll be looking forward to the underground, winds coming off the shore...and being myself in a new place.

Intrigued and anticipating: If there's one thing I like it's a listening room and if there's two things it's listening rooms and Americana. Three things it's listening rooms, Americana and old friends.
