Before I Kick the Bucket: Cruise

"Only the guy who isn't rowing has time to rock the boat." -Jean-Paul Sartre

For many reasons and despite the commercialism, I have long desired to board a cruise ship and travel the ocean. Any destination would suffice so long as we pit stop so I can purchase some of that islander herb I always hear about.

Much like floating around in a hot air balloon, I imagine cruise ships would offer a rush of freedom; especially when one is surrounded by pure blueness.

Defying nature by swimming in a pool on a vessel moving through leagues of salt water 1000 fathoms deep is a phenomenal human accomplishment and something I want to be apart of.

I'll be the guy in the white guayabera shirt with dark shades drinking a daiquiri.

That's a Jean-Paul Sartre quote (not Arte). He was a famous existentialist. Tres avante-garde, oui?

lookin' out over the back of a moving cruise ship, seein' the wake and the utter emptiness of abyss of the space you're leaving behind...you get the urge to jump in.

I did want to go on a cruise for a long time. Something in the commercials seem promising and attainable and that floating on a giant ship with all these strangers getting drunk and eating all-you-can-eat fried shrimp would end in a feeling of "good idea," but now that all feels so empty and "what's the point."

Now they have those more specialized cruises. I would have to do one of those. "A cruise with a purpose" (other than overeating and drinking). Perhaps one in Alaska, Galapagose Island, or Norway (and even the Norway one would have to make extraordinary promises ahead of time).

The cruise I went on, although charming to spend time with family, was one of the most despicable pathetic gatherings of people I've ever seen. To imagine that one of the more accessible and desirable ways to see the world is on a cruise is depressing.

I agree with you on the specialized cruise thing...like when musicians or magazines sponsor cruises.
