If only we had someone so insane to guide us through these current insane times.

There is no journalistic equivalent, but I think Bill Maher does a good job calling things how he really sees it.

these times are exactly what he spoke of for 40 years. nothing has changed except for our threat's increasingly embedded commonplace.

bill maher does tell it better than anyone else i've followed. although by comparison there is a certain sympathy missing, or humanity even.

i recently read that bush's 04 win ultimately shut hunter up. turned off the tube, stopped reading, stopped writing. it was almost as if that relentless spirit that fueled everyone and thing around him had finally found defeat. in retrospect, its quite tragic.

It's difficult to do a direct comparison between HST and Bill Maher. Foremost, Hunter is a journalist. Foremost, Bill is a comedian. Hunter is very Colorado, Bill is very Hollywood. But I wouldn't say Bill lacks compassion, he's a PETA member for Christ's sake!

that's exactly what i meant, bill's craft is the laugh. i'm not saying HIS ideal is any more low brow or less heroic, but his mean of communicating it is a touch simpler, thus the greater accessibility. these are not criticisms. more like a study in character logistics, which again is not too particularly relevant.

The Rum Diaries is a fantastic book of Dr. Gonzo's. I believe it was one of his first novels yet it wasn't published until many years later. I heard Johnny Depp was going to portray him once again in the movie version.
